Emad Tajkhorshid
Professor of Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Biophysics, Computational Structural Biology and Molecular Biophysics Group, Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
The Tajkhorshid lab (Computational Structural Biology and Molecular Biophysics; CSBMB) is focused on studying membrane proteins of diverse function and architecture and membrane associated phenomena using computational biophysical, molecular modeling and simulation technologies. The group has established a strong track record particularly in studying the mechanism of energy coupling and protein conformational changes in active membrane transporters. Recently, the scope of their studies have been expanded to also include peripheral membrane proteins and the mechanism of their regulation by the membrane. Tajkhorshid has been affiliated with the NIH Resource for Macromolecular Modeling at UIUC since 2000. In addition to the Computational Core to which he participates as one of the Co-PIs, Tajkhorshid also oversees the computational components of one of the bridge projects as well as a pilot project.
