Hassane Mchaourab
Professor of Molecular Physiology & Biophysics; Professor of Physics & Chemistry, Vanderbilt University Medical Center
The Mchaourab laboratory develops and applies spectroscopic methods, EPR and Fluroescence, to elucidate the dynamic dimension of protein structure. Current focus is on active transport with the goal of mapping the conformational motion that couples energy input to transport. The targets include ABC transporters (MsbA), Small multidrug resistance transporter (EmrE) and bacterial homologs of neurotransmitter transporters (LeuT). Other relevant efforts are: structure and mechanism of small heat shock proteins and the mechanism of activation and molecular interactions of of Ca/Calmodulin dependent protein kinase II (CamKII).
